2017 NHH SUMMER DINGHY SERIES
Races will be held the second and fourth Sunday of each month, June through August; June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, August 13 and August 27.
Please make sure you are familiar with the Notice of Race if you are planning to participate.
- The Notice of Race for 2017 Summer Dinghy Series.
- Sailing Instructions will be given at the skippers meeting on the day of each race.
Additional racing dates, practice dates and other training opportunities will be announced via e-mail.
Summer Racing Series Results
July 23, 2017 - We ended up with almost twice as much wind as anyone predicted on Sunday! By race three we had 15-18 with some gusts to 21! Not the 8-10 as predicted. It made for really fun reaches, but was too much for some as by race 5 we only had three out of the nine boats finishing. Everyone was tired by the end of the day, that is for sure. Half the fleet made it to the Hilo Tavern afterwards for refreshments and inputting the scores.
August 13, 2017 - We had a small group today, six boats. Ann, Frank and Paul were our Race Committee on Whippy. We got off six races. Mickie won her first race, by following the course and crossing the finish line first. Richard won the day, followed by Gary and then a three way tie for third based on points. Mickie came out with third for the day after the dust settled.

For final ranking, skippers must complete 12 races and participate in 3 race days.

May 13th, 2017 - Fun Races - Report by Gary Morgan
We had great wind and sun all day yesterday. Everyone had a great time, enjoyed the close racing.
The first race everyone had to reach out and touch the marks as they rounded them. Made for some interesting roundings! Then we had a couple of relay races. Broke the sailors into two teams, one boat per team racing at a time on a short windward leeward race, when they your team mate finished, then the next team member would go. Both teams won a race, so it made for a very close day of racing.
Alex won, followed by Katja, Lahi, Lorie, and Keith. All were only separated by one point all the way down.
That is it for the fun races this spring. Look for some more this fall. Mean time, come join us this summer for the NHH summer dinghy series starting June 11th.
April 23rd, 2017 - Fun Races - Report by Gary Morgan
If you missed Sunday’s races, you missed a great time. We got 5 races in with great winds under sunny skies. The racers did everything - starting the first race from the beach, sailing backwards, capsizing, 360 turns and finishing at the beach.
Ben had a stellar day and came in first with Alex right behind him. Ben sailed the whole last leg of the last race backwards. You had to sail across the finish line backwards, Ben did it in spades. Chris was third with Lahi 4th.
Next came Lori, Alex Bridges in a Topper, Ryan, Julian in a Topper, and Kathy.
There will be one more training day next Saturday the 29th. It will include sailing without a tiller, sailing from in front of the mast, and other fun and interesting ways of making the boat go…..or stop.
